Making the Most of Google’s New Algorithm

By this time everyone has heard about the changes in Google’s algorithms and there is a good deal of discussion as to what this means to the Internet marketer who has put a good deal of time, effort and expense into building a website that demands decent volumes of traffic. If you were one of the crowd that used ‘black hat’ tactics to build traffic to your site this might not be a very good omen.

Unfortunately, it might not even be a great thing for those of us who tried to do it the good old-fashioned way. However, with a little patience and a bit of research you can set about making the most of Google’s new algorithm.

Key Changes in Google’s Algorithm

One of the most significant changes is in terms of indexing. Those sites that have dynamic sitemaps will index within 1/4 of an hour. Also, it has been suggested that Google is looking for pages which load faster. To make the most out of Google’s new algorithms make sure to optimize all media. This will greatly impact flash sites that tend to load extremely slowly. As for ‘black hat’ strategies, those who pad for links might want to rethink doing so in the future. Google is now saying that the age of the link takes precedence over the number of links.

Additional Changes to Be Aware Of

Another change to be aware of is how Google looks at keyword density which will now need to be lower. Keyword-stuffing is going to cause a number of old timer’s a bunch of trouble. Then there is the matter of those links mentioned above. Prior to the new algorithms webmasters optimized their links. Now Google will look for links that are naturally placed within the content. And finally, also in terms of links, those which are from sites considered to be industry expert sites with higher PR will count for more as well.

How to Make These Changes Work for You

Of course it shouldn’t be necessary to design a whole new website just to keep current with the new algorithms. For example, if you were one of the many who bought links for your site, it would be a good idea to plan on keeping for a while. Remember, age outranks quantity so if you have a pre-specified time frame in which those links remain active it is in your best interest to keep them active. If you have been listening to the SEO experts over the past few years, you would already have heard that keyword-stuffing was taboo even before these changes.

While these changes in Google’s algorithms were instituted to provide fair and accurate search engine result pages (SERP’s), there will still be a good many webmasters who resent the changes. In any event, there is not much we can do about it so the best advice would be to understand what it is that will give your site decent page rank.

Making the most of Google’s new algorithm simply boils down to understanding that a steady stream of well crafted content with naturally occurring links will gain you so much more than sloppy articles stuffed with keywords and random links.
